About this trip

** Total cost for this trip and flight itinerary is estimated until confirmed and booked by agent.**

We are heading to the beautiful island of Saba for a unique island experience and some exceptional diving. Saba is a five square mile island located in the northeastern Caribbean Sea, 28 miles southwest of its international hub St. Maarten, a 12 minute flight or 90 minute ferry ride away. Formerly part of the Netherlands Antilles, in 2010 Saba became part of a special municipality of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, along with the islands of St. Eustatius and Bonaire. Saba has four main villages, The Bottom (Saba's capital), Windwardside, St. John's and Zion's Hill (aka Hell's Gate). All are well kept and bristling with old Caribbean charm. Gingerbread houses with immaculate gardens, and clean and safe streets await your exploration.

We will be staying in Windwardside at Juliana's Hotel. Windwardside is the most tourist-oriented village. Drop by the Saba Tourist Bureau and say hello, you'll be within close proximity to three of the island's hotels and home to many vacation rental cottages. You'll have no trouble passing a day wandering through small streets, exploring the museums and shops, and a bite to eat is never far away. If you're up for some exercise stop by the trail shop, pick up a map and a keepsake and then ascend the Mt. Scenery Trail to climb to the highest point in the Kingdom of the Netherlands!

Diving on Saba

Saba plunges below the sea as steeply as it rises above. From shallow patch reefs to deep underwater seamounts, the Unspoiled Queen offers sites suitable for any diver’s level of experience.

Past volcanic activity created spectacular formations and structures such as underwater lava flows and hot springs. The reefs are populated with schools of tropical fish and healthy coral, while sheer, close-to-shore walls are covered with sponges of all sizes. Unusual and exciting sightings are always possible in Saba’s waters, including frequent shark encounters.

Saba offers year-round diving with seasonal differences in water temperature and surface conditions. The water temperature varies between 26C and 28C (77F-84F). Visibility ranges from a minimum of 20m (60ft) to virtually unlimited. Swells and heavy rainfall may influence visibility, but typically it clears again very quickly.

Due to the steepness of the coastal zone, shore diving is prohibited. All diving must be done with one of Saba’s licensed dive centers. Their expertise contributes to a safe, convenient and informative diving experience. Fortunately, Saba’s dramatic coastline naturally limits coastal development. The quality of the marine environment, resilient reef communities and rich and varied marine life continue to lure divers to Saba’s unspoiled waters.

It was a trip of a life time. The diving was good, but the land tours were over the top. Up close and maybe too close to wild lions, elephants, rinos, cheetahs, buffalo, etc....

Mike and Terry were gracious and helpful. Toucan divers were very on the ball with the diving sites and were very professional

Nice diving in Bonaire. Only one dive with real current. For wreck divers the Hilma Hooker is very accessible. Nice selection of fish No large Pelagics this trip, sigh. Nice night dives with nice variety of fish eels turtles crabs. Also lots of tarpon who were aggressive with prey but not us Toucan Divers was well run. Dive boat was really nice Resort (Eden Beach Resort)did not live up to its promises—but Mike from California Scuba Center was on hand and really advocated for the divers and made it work Will definitely travel with them again

It is always fun traveling with California Scuba Center. They make travel easy and worry free. If there is ever a problem while on the trip, you just go to Mike the trip leader and he takes care of it. The trip to Cozumel was so great. It is hard to beat the diving there and the placed we stayed was outstanding. Can't wait for the next trip.
